BLACKPOOL'S PIERS

Blackpool has three magnificent piers which have stood guard over the Irish Seas for many years and allowed visitors to experience the magnificence of the fresh sea air without even getting their feet wet!

Blackpool’s three piers, although all things of historical beauty and elegance, each have a unique personality and a significantly diverse offer.

We start in the south, with the adrenaline filled South Pier. Fairground rides, loud music and the smell of popcorn and hotdogs abound as you make your way to the big attractions here. Those of a faint disposition may want to stay away as Skyscreamer throws you up into the skies above Blackpool, Skycoaster plummets you freeflying across the Pier and Maxibounce offers you the ultimate trampolining experience.

Central Pier is a location where the fun of the fairground extends over water. The magnificent big wheel now graces the planks alongside family rides and interesting sidestalls. With a family bar over the water and Legends, the best soundalike show you will ever see, Central Pier has something for every member of the family.

Finally we take a sedate stroll along North Pier, whose Victorian elegance has sustained the relentless buffeting of the Irish Sea. Almost a quarter of a mile long, Blackpool’s North Pier is an ideal place for taking pictures of the town and the tower, and the Victorian Sun Lounge is a beautiful place to relax and watch the world go by. North Pier is also the firing site for Blackpool’s annual World Fireworks Championships, usually held Fridays in September.

COMEDY CARPET

Created by artist Gordon Young, and designed in collaboration with Why Not Associates, the Comedy Carpet is a celebration of comedy on an extraordinary scale. Referring to the work of more than 1,000 comedians and comedy writers, the carpet gives visual form to jokes, songs and catchphrases dating from the early days of variety to the present. Sited in front of Blackpool Tower, the 2,200m2work of art contains over 160,000 granite letters embedded into concrete, pushing the boundaries of public art and typography to their limits.

A remarkable homage to those who have made the nation laugh, it’s also a stage for popular entertainment that celebrates entertainment itself.

CORAL ISLAND

Coral Island is Blackpool’s largest indoor free admission family attraction. Come and explore Coral Island and enjoy an action packed day filled with fabulous food and family favorite seaside rides and redemption games as well as adult gaming and prize bingo.

A busy traditional coastal market offering a great seaside shopping experience, Fleetwood Market has over 200 stalls within three indoor heated halls and a selection of outdoor stalls. The market is open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 9am – 4.30pm all year round including bank holidays and Fleetwood Festival of Transport (Tram Sunday).

Although market rights were granted to Fleetwood Market in 1725, it wasn’t until 1840 when Sir Peter Hesketh-Fleetwood started using those rights that the Victorian Market was built.

FREEPORT OUTLET VILLAGE

Set on a tranquil marina, we have over 45 famous name stores offering up to 60% off every day, so you’ll find a fantastic range of men’s, women’s and children’s fashions and footwear plus gifts, homeware and accessories all at amazing low prices. With such great choice and value you’ll never have to pay full price again! There are events and activities on special days throughout the year, but every day your little ones can enjoy the children’s play area.

There’s also a tasty selection of places to eat and drink, including our Food Court, Costa Coffee, McDonald’s and The Bay Tearooms.

FARMER PARRS

A fab-ewe-lous animal farm with a museum, cafe & gift shop. Plus outdoor play areas, indoor picnic/bouncy castle barn & indoor animal barns too. So there’s plenty to do come rain or shine! Take a trip down ‘Memory Lane’ in the large and eclectic ‘Fylde Country Life Museum’. Or take a wander around the extensive paddocks, ponds, and walkways – if ewe fancy a stroll.

We also have ‘The Pottery Studio’ based here. It is run by the charity ‘Autism Initiatives’ and ewe can ‘Paint-a-Pot’ with help from their students – ewe’ll just love it!

Daily events include farm tours, animal shows, tractor rides, pony rides & grooming, egg collecting, animal feeding & petting.

Visit in December and meet ‘The Real Santa’ in his fab-ewe-lous log cabin and feed Rudolph through the window too. Our entire barn is transformed into a winter wonderland – a must see for all the family! If Ewe Like Christmas, Ewe’ll Love Farmer Parr’s.

FREE BLACKPOOL

You don’t have to spend a penny to experience some of the fascinating and unique features Blackpool has to offer and all within a few miles of the stunning Comedy Carpet. Blackpool has a number of installations, exhibits and natural spaces for you to explore and enjoy for free.

Great Promenade Show
As you stroll along New South Promenade, you will come across glittering rocks, a decompression tank and the worlds’ largest dancehall mirrorball, but what do these and the 7 other art installations have in common, and what do they have to do with Blackpool?

Each piece is a unique look at the history of this seaside resort from the glamour of the lights, the evocative sounds of the Irish Sea and even the macabre relationship Blackpool has with freak shows and circus. Artists were all commissioned to create a challenging and unique piece of art which makes visitors rethink their experiences at their favourite seaside resort.

Solaris Centre
The Solaris Centre of Environmental Excellence, situated opposite the Great Promenade Show’s Mirrorball, is a shining beacon of self sufficiency and green energy. Wind turbines stand sentry either side of the door, generating energy from the Promenade winds and solar panels help power the many exhibits featuring green ideas and many forms of art and crafts created by local groups.

Grundy Art Gallery
In this delightful little gallery in the heart of Blackpool traditional and modern are shown side by side. Just as Blackpool aims to be at the cutting edge of modern culture yet consistently doffs it’s cap to its heritage and history, Grundy has been displaying ancient and modern items from the Blackpool collection since 1911.

Brilliance

Giant arches loom over Birley Street like a giant rollercoaster during the day and at night transform the artwork, pavements and buildings into a sensory experience of light and sound. A changing schedule of programming allows Brilliance to get involved with what’s on in Blackpool from the Illuminations to Dance Festivals and Showzam!

St John’s Square
Towering over the newly paved St John’s Square is The Wave, a 10m high piece of artwork from which a diver is suspended from a mirror finish wave. Wander a cross the open public space to enjoy the dancing water flumes before sitting in one of the relaxing pavement cafe’s.

Stanley Park
Strolling around Stanley Park, from the formal Italian Gardens, through shaded wild woodlands, around the massive meandering boating lake to the exciting children’s play parks, you can while away a good few hours getting back to nature and watching the kids have good old fashioned fun on the see-saws, slides and climbing frames.

Marton Mere
This bird sanctuary is a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its amazing birdlife and also supports a myriad of fauna and flora including dragonflies, butterflies, bats and orchids. Experiencing the varied nature, you would never guess that this was once the site of the town’s old tip!

Salisbury Woodland
This area has been through many changes since it was formally planted gardens, and after a number of years of letting nature take the lead and head up a team of rangers and volunteers, Salisbury Woodland was designated a County Biological Heritage site in 1993.

ILLUMINASIA

If you’re searching for things to do in Blackpool that are fun and inspirational for kids and adults alike, then look no further than this wonderful display of indoor illuminations.

Illuminasia is more than a walk-through exhibition of stunning internally lit Chinese lantern sculptures, it is an experience like no other.  Combining ancient Chinese tradition with modern production; this awe-inspiring display offers something for everyone.

With the play of light and colour, artists of every medium gain inspiration from this beautiful Far Eastern art form. Children delight in the adventure of exploring through a garden filled with towering exotic flowers and giant butterflies, almost as much as mums and dads enjoy basking in the serenity of time spent in the Jade Palace!

That’s just a taste of what’s in store for visitors to this unique entertainment experience.

If you’re planning to visit Blackpool and take in all we have to offer; a trip to Illuminasia is a fantastic addition to this town’s fine tradition of Blackpool shows and the fun and variety of Blackpool theaters.

SANDCASTLE WATERPARK

A tropical under cover aquatic haven

Blackpool is Britain’s most loved seaside resort, but unlike some of its European counterparts, the sun is not always shining and cracking the flagstones with its heat! Cue Sandcastle Waterpark a tropical under cover aquatic haven and the UK’s largest indoor Waterpark with more than 18 attractions, slides and features including Masterblaster, the longest indoor rollercoaster waterslide in the world.

Sandcastle Waterpark is one of the best places to spend a cold rainy day with the family, and the attraction caters for families of all ages. From the gentle Shimmering Shallows and fun filled HMS Thundersplash for younger visitors to the adrenaline soaked Masterblaster and Sidewinder in the Hyperzone, water babies of all ages will find loads to do in this aquanaut’s paradise.

The waterpark had aimed to open a brand new attraction for 2011 in a brand new Aztec themed zone featuring Montazooma, which sends riders plummeting head first through 360 degree loops and stomach turning back to back turns and Aztec Falls, which promises high velocity drops and corkscrew style turns in a darkened Aztec Temple environment.

Work on the newest additions to the world class attraction has been slowed somewhat with the discovery of a previously unknown room below the front entrance to the building! A frantic search through blueprints and archive photographs began to discover the original purpose of the mystery room which is still to be proven. Sandcastle owners promise the new slides will be open to try as soon as possible, and they will certainly be worth the wait!

Towards the centre of the park there is a crossroads with a clock tower, dedicated to William Cocker. It is close to the large children’s play area, the tennis courts, all-weather pitches, BMX track, skate park and general grassy areas.
